Perception is a process over time, something that takes shape as an experience of duration, built on the overlapping physical sensations of the human body and inextricably attached to deep emotions, experiences, memories and understandings. Our sense of hearing is the same. In sounds we can feel colors and these are connected to memory, so the sound of a door bell ringing reveals someone waiting. In the “Horizon of Voice” outstanding contemporary artists produce works that reveal sounds intimately linked to human perception, emotions, memory and experience, and in so doing encourage visitors to explore the boundless world of sound.

Lin Chun-ting’s new media work uses the almost indistinguishable sound of flowers blooming and interactive images to elicit an emotional reaction from his audience; Tao Ya-lun catches time with light and uses a motor to represent eternity as it is only through this that one can enjoy freedom. Yao Chung-han’s spatial installation work uses the crisp sound of florescent lights to temper the physical sense of unease caused by brilliant light, replacing this sensation with gentler rhythms.

Wang Chung-kun’s work comprises a box, a spring and a mechanical interactive installation. Between the opening and closing of the box the sound of the spring is a half known secret; Chin Yu-fen combines sound, sculpture and terrifying images of the Medusa to discuss of the fatalistic existence of women. The multimedia work of Yao Chien combines the lyrics of popular music and anime images to create romance for a new era that is light but also profound.

The “Horizon of Voice” exhibition is a major event organized to celebrate the reopening of Gallery 100 after its recent relocation. We welcome visitors to our new gallery space and encourage them to physically experience the intriguing world of strange noises constructed by the participating artists.
